Service Description

Step up to the wheel and experience the rhythm, challenge and magic of wheel throwing. In this homeschool pottery series designed for high school students, artists will learn the foundational skills needed to create beautiful, functional pieces on the potter’s wheel. Over seven two-hour sessions, students will be guided through each stage of the process—from wedging and centering clay to pulling up walls, trimming and adding finishing details like handles and surface design. Along the way, they’ll explore techniques like sgraffito, experiment with glazing and gain a deeper understanding of how their work transforms through the kiln. Wheel throwing takes patience and practice, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. This class is all about learning new skills, embracing the process and building confidence in a supportive, creative studio environment. NOTE: *This series is for high school students. **As an Oxford Virtual Academy community partner, this course is fully funded by OVA for full-time and part-time OVA students. ***This series requires a minimum of 4 students. If there are less than 4 students registered for the course, the series will be canceled and your registration fee will be refunded.
